Rano: “Seeing the people you love and adore. That is happiness”

Minutes before entering the most administrative yurt in Kizilkum’s desert, Rano counts the expenses made by the tourists. She does that on a notebook which once in a while had white sheets of paper and that now see its edges fighting against gravity. She helps herself with a calculator. The interview, simultaneously translated by the guide Ahror, has rhythm. It is fluent. Rano finishes a sentence and she makes a pause, waiting for Ahror to translate the answer to me. Her 15 years experience as an Uzbek teacher, both language and literature, are glimpsed during the 13 minutes and 54 seconds of the interview.

Yurie Lacruz: “For me happiness is that people I love are alright”

ESCRS congress, celebrated this year in Hospitalet de Llobregat, brings together ophthalmologists from all over the world and professionals whose job is related to the field. Yurie Lacruz works in the event as a hostess. Wearing black blazer, black skirt, white shirt and black sparkling shoes, the girl from Mallorca is particularly accustomed to perform her job. Her green eyes are the reference point of her face for those who hold a conversation with her. The maximum expression of her smile delights visitors.

Mayke: “For me happiness is to enjoy good moments”

In the garden from Vigo that divides the parallel avenues of Rúa Montero Ríos and Avenida de Beiramar, sitting down, is Mayke. Two Quechua rucksacks surround her. One is hers and the other one belongs to her son Miro. She holds a Mahou can with a hand. She dresses up with printed jacket and hairband, a pink T-Shirt and greyish trousers. Her serene energy is the one that a pilgrim owns just by watching life pass by at a city which is orphan of hours and minutes. She observes, smiles and lights up the atmosphere with her crystalline and peaceful gaze.

Ricardo: “For me happiness is to feel alright with people I love”

A few metres away from A Laxe Mall, in front of Real Club Náutico of Vigo, I meet a portuguese couple. Despite my attempts to begin a conversation in which the visual exchange is posible, the sunglasses that both wear make that mission impossible.

Nargiza: “For me happiness is that my husband doesn’t cheat on me”

When I just finished interviewing Zubayda, Nargiza entered stealthily into the restaurant. Her light grey eyes enlightened her face.

Zubayda: “For me happiness is my family and having my children”

Khiva’s high temperature leads me to a restaurant which is near to Islom Xo’ja minaret. Zubayda is sitting down in the corner of a long table, having dinner. She offers me a glass of water. She has got a dark and weather-beaten skin and she speaks in a flat uzbek, smoothly.
